New York, NY, August 12, 2018—After three decades in the tabletop industry, Terrafirma Ceramics Inc., New York City’s original, handmade pottery studio, expands its finely crafted collection into home décor, at NY NOW®, the Market for Home, Lifestyle + Gift, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The collection includes a variety of ultramodern, handmade vases and wine chillers designed and manufactured in NYC. Terrafirma is exhibiting the entire 2018 line of custom, functional art in the tabletop section, booth 3129, from August 12 through August 15.
“Our focus has always been on pieces that enhance the dining experience, and bring a bit of artistry into play--the vases and wine chillers are a natural extension of that concept,” says Artistic Director Ellen Evans. “There is of course a practical function to our line, but each piece can also stand alone as a decorative object. For example, when the wine chiller isn’t being utilized to cool your favorite vintage, it can simply look smashing on your kitchen counter holding utensils.”
The season’s home décor selections are a contemporary take on classic vase shapes. The new introductions include a pedestal, hexagon, carafe, and rhombus, as well as the wine chiller. Evans’ signature design approach, which involves painting patterns through textiles and lace using liquid porcelain, provides each shape with its own variation of color and texture. Additionally, the new geometric patterns, Pixel and Quill, which are exclusively available on the vases, lend a fresh, graphic aesthetic. The home décor items, as with Terrafirma’s dinnerware and serving pieces, are kiln-fired at high temperatures resulting in a lightweight durability unprecedented in ceramic objects.
“The bespoke nature of our products really resonates with people, and our retailers have often asked us to expand our assortment into decorative items for the home. We’re excited to preview this new direction at NY NOW,” concludes Evans.
