We are happy to announce that we will be presenting at NY NOW - BY HAND CONSULTING / ARTISAN REOURCE for the first time.
Our pieces are made by workers’ cooperatives located in the Callejón de Conchucos, using artisanal techniques. We also work with artisans in Ayacucho, who create all of our embroidery by hand; with a Fair Trade certified project called Mothers in Action in Lima; and with weavers in the district of Puente Piedra.
One of the driving forces behind Philomena is the goal of empowering women and giving them a sense of emotional and economic independence. In the Andean world, where women are still very much oppressed in their day-to-day lives, an empowered and economically independent woman is a woman with the tools she needs to get ahead in life.
We want to continue offering work to the women who inspire us. We want people to feel proud of the legacy and talent of our female artisans. That is Philomena’s mission: to empower the female artisans who represent us, and who do such an incredible job of it.
Visit us to feel all of our handmade ponchos, bags, pompons, jewelry and hats.
