Noesa story start with Cendy and Nisa journey while travelling to East Nusa Tenggara in 2012. Deciding to spent one month in Flores after their final project was over was the roots of everything they do now. Since Flores ia a well-known for tenun ikat and they still using it for ceremony or simply daily use, they expect to see Ikat everywhere in Flores, but unfortunately they don’t. From Manggarai to Ende, they just saw the women wearing Ikat is on the traditional market in Ende. Before they depart to Maumere, Nisa read a book about flores tourism and found Daniel David numbers on it. Talked for a second and after that they already strolling around kampung Sikka to know more about tenun ikat. The day after, Daniel called and told them to come to his village called Watublapi. Daniel said that a group of tourist from Netherlands would visit Watublapi village to saw traditional dance performace and the process of tenun ikat and he invited them to come. Cendy and Nisa fell in love at the first sight with natural dyed tenun ikat. A few months later while Daniel in Jakarta in mid 2013, he asked Cendy and Nisa to worked together. He wanted them to sell tenun ikat in Jakarta. And we came up with Watublapi as the brand name. But unfortunately, the bussiness didn’t run because Cendy and Nisa were busy and had no time to sell the tenun ikat. As time goes by, in late 2014 they decided to change the whole concept with a bigger goal and mission. After a lot of discussion and brain storming, they chose Noesa as the new brand name. Noesa means island in Indonesia language, it means that we want to collaborate with artisans in all province in Indonesia.
