  • David Stepan Hammered Copper Hard Cheese Knife
A unique hammered copper cheese knife. Designed to cut a harder cheese, with its broad spine and downward pressing angle. It can also spread soft cheese, amazing, we know. Wrought from salvaged solid copper bar....

  • Hand hammered copper hard cheese knife. Fine Art for Food.

Measuring about 5" to 6" +- (125 to 150mm +-). The knife point is for driving into a hard cheese; and with its broad spine to support the finger and downward pressing angle it functions suberbly.

Wrought from solid copper electrical bus bar salvaged from shuttered industrial facilities, it is hammered out, annealed, hammered, annealed, hammered...creating a one of a kind instrument. As I am essentially hammering out the same material as the handle to become the blade, the blade section weighs almost the same as the handle, making it terrifically balanced. Your body naturally senses this balance, and it adds to the pleasurable experience of handling the knife. Through hammering the copper becomes work hardened, allowing it to take an edge. The knife has been sharpened.

This piece is individually packed in its own flocked vinyl case. A delightful, and obviously handmade item, our copper culinary tools are a best selling gift. Sold individually $55.00 msrp $27.50 whls, or mixed in sets.

  • David Stepan Hammered Copper Hors D'Oeuvre Fork
Hammered copper hors d'oeuvres fork. Wrought from salvaged solid copper bar, each one distinct. I enjoy cutting the tines into the forks, creating their own personality, often with whimsy and the primitive energy of a child's drawing....

  • David Stepan Hammered Copper Preserve Spoon
A unique hand hammered copper preserve or condiment spoon. Each spoon bowl is hammered into an absolutely one of a kind profile, and it is lovely to press your thumb into it. This spoon is individually packed in its own flocked vinyl case....

  • A unique hand hammered copper preserve or condiment spoon. Fine Art for Food.

Measuring about 5" to 6" +- (125 to 150mm +-). Wrought from salvaged solid copper electrical bus bar, it is hammered out, annealed, hammered, annealed... with the spoon bowl raised over a horn.

Each spoon bowl develops organically under the hammer, with its edge profile often beautifully scalloped as the original 1/4" thickness is hammered out to less than 40 thousandths of an inch.

These spoons are perfect for the black current jelly to pair with blue cheese, or the chutney from last years bumper crop of peaches. One of our best sellers, many of these are purchased as hostess gifts or stocking stuffers. The included flocked vinyl packaging beautifully exclaims that this is a thoughtful, handmade, one of a kind gift. It can also be put together in a set. $55.00 msrp $27.50 whls.

  • David Stepan MINI Board w Forest Fire Growth Rings
MINI Charcuterie (cheese) Board in Zebrawood with inlaid Forest Fire Hemlock from the 2016 Seven Mile Lake Forest Fire. The ring section snapped naturally in drying, further segmented and inlaid in this fossil like image. Notched for wall hanging....

  • A dramatic MINI Charcuterie Board (cheese board) in Zebrawood with inset Hemlock Forest Fire growth rings. Fine Art for Food.

This is an example of the board available to purchase. One side of the Hemlock tree burned significantly more than the other. Perhaps it was hollow,  horizontal, already fallen, or the wind influenced the burn. The ring section snapped naturally in drying, and I segmented it further into this semi fossil image.

The 395+ hectare arson was fire started August 4, 2016, and burned in the very dry humus layer, burning the roots out from under the trees. Burning down, sometimes over 2 feet, made it extremely difficult to fight and contain, and was out of control for some time. The area is now stark, eerie, and feels injured. Yet the moss and ferns, the forest fire morels, and the fungi are slowly reviving it.

Conceived as Art, the backs are keyhole notched for wall hanging, landscape or portrait. The piece can be enjoyed every day.

We developed these boards to achieve a gift price point of $95.00 msrp. MINI sized, 6"x 10", they are perfect for gift giving and receiving. Each board comes in its own flocked vinyl presentation clutch.

  • A dramatic MEDIUM Charcuterie Board (cheese board) in Purlpleheart with inlaid Mulberry Growth Rings. Fine Art for Food.

This is an example of the board available to purchase. Purpleheart is always a popular gift choice with its striking natural colour. • David Stepan Zebrawood Board w Forest Fire Rings
Dramatic 24"ish Zebrawood Charcuterie Board with inlaid Forest Fire Growth Rings. A great story. A perfect piece to showcase some amazing food, A perfect piece to hang on the wall. Whls $225.00 Msrp $450.00...

  • A dramatic 24"(ish) long Charcuterie Board (cheese board) in Zebrawood with inset and projecting Hemlock Forest Fire growth rings. Fine Art for Food.

One side of the Hemlock tree burned significantly more than the other. Perhaps it was horizontal, already fallen, or the wind influenced the burn. For me, it animated the pieces, giving them wings, so I composed it like a loose flock of butterflies. When I showed it to my daughter, she saw mushrooms...I can't unsee the mushrooms now...a perfect companion to charcuterie.

The 395+ hectare arson fire started August 4, 2016, and burned in the very dry humus layer, burning the roots out from under the trees. Burning down, sometimes over 2 feet, made it extremely difficult to fight and contain, and was out of control for some time. The area is now stark, eerie, and feels injured. Yet the moss and ferns, the forest fire morels, the fungi are slowly reviving it.

The back is engraved with my signature, and dated. The back of the board is also drilled and t-slotted so that it can be hung on the wall, as ART. The board is finished with multiple coats of tung oil.
