Geneva, March 2019 – The iconic Ecridor collection goes full-throttle, with the new Ecridor Racing. Mirroring the sleek lines of automotive design, this Matte Black ballpoint is the latest of Caran d’Ache’s performance-inspired fine writing instruments.
Ecridor Racing: automotive design at your fingertips.
In 1953, Ecridor became the first writing instrument in Caran d’Ache’s Haute Ecriture collection, with a soaring architectural design imbued with Art Deco aesthetics. Its hexagonal body is inspired by the Maison’s instantly recognisable coloured pencil design, and pioneers a brand-new artistic field in the engraving of precious metals. Ecridor Racing is the first model to exhibit completely black bodywork, and serves as testament to the boundless ingenuity and skill of the Maison’s artisans. The six engraved faces of the Ecridor Racing boast a midnight black matte finish in chrome, set off by streaks of red – a subtle nod to the sleek lines traditionally found in high-performance race cars.
A need for speed
The Maison’s designers have called upon every ounce of their artisanal skill in creating the Ecridor Racing, taking their cue from the world of automotive design. The matte black finish lends a profound elegance and accentuates the silver chrome details, such as the clip and the button, modelled after car headlights. The expressive engraving is inspired by radiator grills, while the red streaks gently bring out the pen’s sharp angles, evoking the rear lights of a race car disappearing into the night.
The custom-designed bodywork of the Ecridor Racing line captures the dynamism and limitless beauty of contemporary sports car design, while its carefully engineered size means it fits impeccably into the hand, perfectly showcasing the Swiss precision behind it. This race car inspired ballpoint pen is designed for those who live life at full throttle. Collectors of handcrafted art will appreciate the bold reimagining of classic automotive design exhibited by Ecridor Racing. The dynamism of this writing instrument is sure to play a part in the powerful moments that define the lives of the most influential amongst us.
