Yael Sonia’s work visualizes the structural, the dynamic, and the personal.
Embedded in each piece is a sense of play, of energy, and of an evolving union. From the first collection, Perpetual Motion, which reimagined fine gemstones as perfectly round spheres free of prongs and traditional settings, to Spinning Top, with its rotating pieces placed precisely within gold frames. There is delight and discovery not only in the visual but in the audible effects of the pieces when worn. Yael’s practice, often self-reflective, invites us to consider our relationship to our own rhythm and movement.
I approach each 18K gold jewelry piece I create as a three-dimensional sculpture. Depending on the scale in which it takes form, it can either be worn on the body or stand alone. Often growing from a central core, a sphere or a pearl, my work explores life and evolution, even when no movement is present.
