ANCHAL’S SS19 COLLECTION WILL DEBUT AT NY NOW’S WINTER MARKET

New Collection of Sustainable Home Goods & Gifts on Display in Coveted Accent on Design®

Louisville, KY. (February 4, 2019) – Anchal will launch their Spring/Summer ‘19 collection at the NY NOW Winter Market. Expanding on the tremendous success of the award-winning Narrative Collection, Anchal’s SS19 Crescent Lattice Collection continues to push the boundaries of contemporary handcrafted goods through creative storytelling and exceptional design.

During a recent trip to India, the team was inspired by the ornamental elements and geometric patterns found in the Jali. A signature in Indian architecture, the Jali is perforated stone that acts as a cooling system, compressing and reducing the hot and humid air as it passes through. But beyond its functionality, the Jali’s intricate and decorative patterns provide aesthetic beauty while illuminating a space as moonlight transcends the openings.

The Crescent Lattice Quilt was  inspired by a two-dimensional photograph that was interpreted and transformed into a quilted textile design. The coordinating pillows took the design a step further by incorporating spherical designs mimicking the lunar calendar.  The moon holds cultural importance in India, often dictating festivals and religious observances. The night of the new moon is considered especially auspicious with people gathering under the night sky to welcome it and it’s good fortune. The newest collection merges these two themes to introduces circular geometric composition with a neutral but bold color palette.

With backgrounds in landscape architecture and architecture, sisters Colleen and Maggie Clines lead the brand by placing design at the center of Anchal’s everyday practice. Their contemporary lifestyle brand is defined by sophisticated hand quilting and women’s empowerment, revolutionizing traditional kantha quilting techniques.

Ranging in price from $12-$356, Anchal's SS19 collection  will be available for purchase in March on anchalproject.org.

ANCHAL TO DEBUT EXCLUSIVE CAPSULE COLLECTION AT GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM

Louisville, KY. (September 12, 2018) – Anchal announces an exclusive capsule collection in partnership with the Guggenheim Museum. Inspired by the modernist paintings of female artist Hilma af Klint, the 5 piece collection will debut at the Guggenheim Museum on October 11, 2018. Designed by sisters, Colleen and Maggie Clines, and entirely handcrafted by Anchal artisans in Ajmer, India, this collection features a diverse mix of quilts, apparel, and fashion accessories that incorporate abstract geometric forms and shades of brilliant color.

“As designers, it is a dream come true for my sister Maggie and I to be invited to create a custom collection for the Guggenheim Museum,” said Colleen Clines, Co-Founder and CEO, Anchal Project. “To bring this opportunity to our artisans in India and witness them bring our most complex designs to life has been astonishing. It is a true testament to their growth as designers and dedication to Anchal’s program.”

Anchal was one of only 7 predominantly female groups of designers tapped to design for this exclusive capsule collection created in celebration of Hilma af Klint: Paintings for the Future, the first major solo exhibition in the United States of the Swedish artist. Sister’s Colleen and Maggie Clines took elements from the geometric curves and spiral lines in Hilma’s paintings to create a detailed quilt design and several coordinating styles including scarves, tote bags, and a kimono jacket.

Gigi Loizzo, Director, Retail Strategy and Operations at the Guggenheim said, “This group of artisans and designers have created a suite of distinctive wares that we enthusiastically look forward to sharing with our visitors as further evidence of Hilma af Klint’s capacity to foster daring and imaginative thinking that transcends convention.” She continued that Anchal’s  Spiral Quilt in particular incorporated both “the color palette of Hilma with the ramps of the Guggenheim” turning the traditional craft of Indian blankets “into something modern and fresh.”

The Spiral Quilt and coordinating pieces are available in limited quantities exclusively through the Guggenheim Store, in-store and online at guggenheimstore.org, beginning October 11, 2018.
